Casa de los Coroneles
The longest conserved house on the archipelago
Casa de los Coroneles (House of Colonels) is in La Oliva, in the north of Fuerteventura. It was built in the 18th Century as a residence for whoever held military, and consequently political power over the island.
The building stands out enormously over the expansive and arid landscape that it sits on, not just due to its large size, but also because of its historical importance. Today, it holds various titles: it is the longest conserved house on the archipelago and has been declared both an Artistic Historical Monument and a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC).
Currently, la Casa de los Coroneles hosts various exhibitions and cultural events.
