The lighthouse has become a symbol for the town and today holds the Traditional Fishing Museum, reflecting the close relationship between El Cotillo and fishing.<\/p>\n<p>The importance of the port led to the construction of the <strong>El Tost\u00f3n Castle<\/strong> (<em>Castillo de El Tost\u00f3n<\/em>), built in the 15th Century to defend the island from attacks from North Africa. Over time, the fort has become a historical, architectural, and cultural landmark of the town.<\/p>\n<p>To the south, you can find <strong>Piedra Playa<\/strong>, a beach that is popular among surfing and kitesurfing lovers. They are ideal for those looking for peace and quiet. <strong>Los Lagos<\/strong> is one of those places \u2013 a succession of small white sand coves covering almost a kilometre in total. They have white sand and are protected from the waves by a natural breakwater.<\/p>\n<p><strong>La Caleta del Marrajo<\/strong> is further north and is formed of a large esplanade of white sand, calm crystalline waters that are ideal for snorkelling.
